Panel: Growth in internet-connected devices a major challenge

The number of devices connected to the internet is growing exponentially, and most of them weren't designed with security in mind and can't be updated, Cisco's chief security officer said Wednesday during a panel discussion at a Colorado Springs conference.

The number of cars connected to the internet last year exceeded the number of people that got internet access for the first time, and everything from a herd of cows and a forest of trees to a diaper and fork are connected and transmitting information online, John Stewart, Cisco's vice president and chief security and trust officer, said during the panel at the Cyberspace Symposium at The Broadmoor hotel.
